DJs do one of the coolest jobs in the world, why not become a Disk Jockey?

Whenever people get interested in doing something new for earnings or as a hobby, there is a lot of work to carry out before doing it right. When it comes to DJ-ing that is exactly the same thing, while there are a lot of new things to learn and a lot of practice to be done.
Though these days DJ academies and schools have risen from the underground, probably the best way someone will learn this art is by practicing and learning from an experienced disk-jockey that has been doing this for many years. Some will agree to teach somebody for a small fee or for some services like carrying their equipment to a party. However, even before the apprentice has found someone to watch and learn from, two skills must be somehow grown: an all genres of music knowledge and last, but not least, how to be charismatic, while entertaining the crowds is a major task of this job.

Next step would be studying what a mixer is, what tables are, cartridges and needles also. Scratching on a regular basis before performing somewhere live is a must while trying too early to entertain a party could become tricky if used a bad tempo or an awful beatmix.

Here comes the financial part: what is the equipment required for a beginner? In trying to make some economies used equipment could be a good choice. Starting with a pair of turntables (or CD players if the goal is becoming a low level events DJ) and a mixer should be enough, while this gear will get out of the pockets around ?800 if buying brand new. Here is a must-buy equipment list when launching in this business. A good option for turntables would be The Stanton T.80 Direct Drive Turntable which is a direct-drive one and already comes with mounted cartridges. For mixer a Numark X6 DJ Mixer is a good alternative. Also, a pair of Technics RP-F550 DJ Headphones could do the trick, however, this is only an example, someone with other taste will definitely choose other gear, but for a starter those would make a good decision. Following the equipment purchase, performing for friends or family is the next thing to march on. Develop mixing skills with CDs and/or vinyls. This art is not to be educated in a couple of days, so patience and practice are two virtues every DJ should own.

How can a DJ market himself online, most people ask? There are a number of resources for doing this, firstly you may want to buy a book called DJ Marketing which promises to show you how to turn your DJ business into a money making venture.
You may also want to create a website t0 attracting new customers. Because this business is music-related, the best channel for advertising online would be YouTube, therefore creating some videos when mixing and uploading to this website is a great idea. In addition, becoming a member of an association like National Association of Disc Jockeys is another brilliant thing to do. Furthermore, people must be aware of your expertise, so writing some good articles and uploading to niche-related websites could do the trick. Finally, listing in DJs directories becomes another “to do thing” for online advertising, there are a few directories out there for submitting to.

The group is called SUBDELUX, but their is nothing sub about their music. A quick look at some of their materials on YouTube will confirm their Super and not Sub status with their Super Delux performance.  The story is continued by their agent:

To make a long story short, Subdelux is serious about music. Producing, recording, mixing, they do it all with a passion. After producing for Yves Larock (smash hits Zookey and Rise up), the group is finally working on their own album. Vocally explicit, original and politically incorrect, Subdelux’s subject matter contains everything from sex, drugs, alcohol, fun, love pain and hope. Simply put, Subdelux loves to party. They’re known for their funky electro music of the future and a punk attitude from the past.

Together, they combine a mix of different backgrounds and feed off of each other’s emotions, experiences and creativity brought to the table by each member. Starkee grew up on Jamaican dub and house music. Aside from studying martial arts and being a dope dj, he’s also a bass player for Lee Scratch Perry, the living legend of reggae music and has played with and composed numerous tracks for The White Belly Rats over the years. Pat Panik has produced house music since it’s golden age. A digital fanatic on and off the turntables, this old school graffiti artist is also a very talented graphic designer that loves to go crazy with his psychedelic artwork that they use during their live dj sets. Blu’print is a hip hop radio host since over 14 years on Radio Couleur 3. He’s been rocking microphones since the age of 10. Songwriter, vocalist, producer, artist director, Blu adds his rebellious and poetic rapping personalityrapping personality to the crew.

Whether they’re creating music in the studio or sharing it on stage with the public, Subdelux’s positive energy defies the laws of physics with tomorrow’s technology, and committed to entertain at all times.
