Birmingham has long played a part in the British music scene, with bands in the 50s and 60s rising to notoriety in musical outfits such as Black Sabbath, The Moody Blues, Spencer Davis Group, Traffic, The Move and Led Zeppelin.
During the 1970s and 80s the city’s musicians found fame through more diverse musical projects taking inspiration from reggae, ska, two tone and electronic bands. Its Summer! (kind of) Let the Music Festivals Begin!
There are a variety of summer 2012 music festivals in the UK to enjoy that offer a variety of music in different genres. Many festivals offer great opportunities to enjoy music while being outdoors. There are different websites that highlight a variety of festivals planned for the summer, but the following events are just a preview of summer music festivals scheduled.
One of UK’s most independent festivals is Farmfestival scheduled to begin in late July. The festival is a 2 day event that features entertainment by the beautiful Somerset countryside. The lineup includes Submotion Orchestra, My Tiger My Timing, Appleblim, Trophy Wife and more. This year’s is the 7th annual event with early bird tickets available at reduced prices. The event is one of the largest festivals with more than 4000 people attending each year. Aside from music and live entertainment, attendees can enjoy games, crafts, magic shows and more.
Folk by the Oak is another great summer 2012 music festival in UK that features performances by the Ukuele Orchestra of Great Britain, The Red Clay Halo, Show of Hands and many more. The festival features a unique stellar list of folk performers. The festival setting includes the beautiful leafy parkland area at the Hatfield House in Hatfield, Hertfordshire. The festival features many activities for children, storytelling, delicious foods and more. Organizers encourage attendees to bring their own food and beverages to make themselves more comfortable while enjoying the musical atmosphere.
WOMAD, also known as World of Music Arts and Dance, has a unique festival that lasts 4 days. In 2012 they will celebrate their 30th year featuring internationally entertainment from diverse backgrounds. The festival will feature tasty foods with the Taste the World stage and disco bar. There will also be activities and workshops for the whole family to enjoy. This event is set for late July at Charlton Park, Wiltshire.
Another late July summer 2012 music festival in the UK is the Southern Fried Festival which is Perth’s annual festival of American Roots Music. The lineup of entertainment includes Charles Walker, Lera Lynn, Darrell Scott and many more. This year will be the 5th annual event and will feature classic music with the blues, soul, country, gospel and more.
In mid-August the V Festival takes place at Hylands Park in Chelmsford and Weston Park in South Staffordshire. This festival is a 2 day event that takes place at 2 venues. The lineup for 2012 includes The Killers, Noel Gallager, The Stone Roses and more. This festival has become a huge with attendees while being packed with plenty of music for people to enjoy.
In early September the Bestival takes place in Robin Hill Country Park at The Isle of Wight; a four day festival that offers a full line of entertainment for attendees to enjoy all weekend long. The event has grown drastically since 2010 with as many as 50,000 attending during the duration of the festival. Well-known BBC DJ Rob Da Bank is one of the main organizers of the event.
